Look closely. This portrait by paper-quilling artist Yi Ye Wang ( @pinkzhazha ) took nearly three months to complete and is 100% constructed from rolled up paper. 🤯⁣ ⁣ “I use paper art to express the deep artistic mood of Chinese traditional ink painting, combined with modern western art techniques, to make my own unique style,” says the Paris-based Chinese artist, who also writes songs and plays bass.⁣ ⁣ “My friends are surprised that I can turn from being a crazy rock musician to a quiet artist who can work alone for long periods of time.” #ThisWeekOnInstagram ⁣ ⁣ Photo by @pinkzhazha

Mikaela Loach ( @mikaelaloach ) is on a mission to make climate activism and ethical and sustainable living accessible to all. 💪💕⁣ ⁣ “Social justice issues cannot and should not be divorced from talk around sustainability and the climate crisis. So, rather than just using my own privilege to be zero waste, vegan and fast-fashion free myself, it’s also about looking at the world as it is and asking myself: How can I make these lifestyle changes possible for everyone? How can I create a world that is good for all people?”⁣ ⁣ This month, @cosmopolitanuk is releasing the “Positivity Index,” a list of 25 British people — included Mikaela — who are striving to make social media, and the world, a better place.⁣ ⁣ “I’m honestly very touched that my wee contribution to the world through my activism can be something both positive and hopeful,” says Mikaela, “which are two things we all need right now!”⁣ ⁣ Learn more about the Positivity Index on @cosmopolitanuk and @cybersmilefoundation now. ⚡

Music helps me express what’s going on in the world, and it helps me express the emotions I’m feeling,” says Lay Lay, who started heading to the studio with her father when she was 5. “I would tell him to record me, and I would make little kid raps, not talking about much, but I knew rapping and entertaining would be my life somehow.” #ThisWeekOnInstagram ⁣ ⁣ Photo by @thatgirllaylay

Self-taught 3D artist Kyle Szostek ( @simulationlab ) treats every piece of art as an opportunity to learn a new tool or method and to tell a story. “I’m totally fascinated by the fact that with digital tools, I’m able to create and share anything I can dream of. I always aim for a satisfying quality in my work, but sometimes the animations can be a bit odd, abstract or uncanny. And that’s really the fun part.”⁣ ⁣ Video by @simulationlab

Aakash Nihalani’s ( @aakashnihalani ) art exists at the intersection of sculpture, painting and street art. “Everything is analog and physically exists in real space, but the work creates a dialogue between the virtual and the real, a doorway between art and life,” says the artist, who uses a variety of mediums, from masking tape to metal. “As a kid, I was drawn to magic tricks, in awe of how they exploit the malleability of our senses and conventional perception to trick our brains into seeing something surprising or even impossible. I strive to create that element of magic in my own work."⁣ ⁣ Photo by @aakashnihalani

Self-described “object arranger” Adam Hillman’s ( @witenry ) colorful, geometry-obsessed art is meticulously assembled. “I utilize all kinds of everyday objects ranging from food items to stationery to create my arrangements,” says the 25-year-old artist. “My favorite part of making art has to be the patterns. The sense of flow I get from carefully arranging each detail can be very relaxing — although sometimes tedious. I’m hoping to surprise the viewer with the artistic potential of materials that most people normally take for granted.” #ThisWeekOnInstagram ⁣ ⁣ Photo by @witenry

For Enam Asiama ( @enamasiama ), a model and advocate based in London, her “goddess energy” = the foundation of who she is and how she moves through the world. 🌹💫⁣ ⁣ “You’re grounded, but at the same time quite powerful,” she says. “Because I’m told that I’m not good enough in so many ways, the power that I feel is even stronger, because I’m trying to let that light shine even brighter.” ✨⁣ ⁣ A few years ago, Enam decided to get rid of the mirrors in her home to redefine where her self-confidence comes from. “I don’t have to necessarily look in a mirror to gain confidence. I just trust that what I’m wearing and what I look like is good enough. So when I step outside, my main focus is that I’ve already come to an understanding of who I am and what I want for myself.” 💛⁣ ⁣ This week, we’re celebrating #InternationalWomensDay with @brutamerica and highlighting women, like Enam, from around the world who are using their lives to encourage and empower others.
