Phoenix Pride is a piece from the upcoming 100•for•100: Colour Edition! + This piece honours my alma mater, @wilsoncollegepa and our mascot- the Phoenix. + The bold reds, brilliant oranges, and fierceness of this piece is amazing!

This beauty is dedicated to another beauty- Juanita Lillian. . The colour scheme I used was identical to the one she picked for her home. . Juanita was all things glamorous and she was a gentle spirit. The only time I ever saw her get angry was when her husband was going to skip life jackets for a boating trip with the grandchildren. She was protective ❤️ . Juanita was a city gal who grew up in D.C. during the Great Depression, met my grandfather at an infamous Army party, traveled the world with him, raised children, and she was the luckiest damn woman I’d ever met. . No really- she was lucky. She was Irish. It didn’t matter what card game she was playing- she’d win. This was especially frustrating when dementia set in and she’d show her cards and ask innocently “is this good” and we’d undoubtedly reply “yes Nanny, a royal flush is good”. 😂😍🍀 . Once, when I was little, a sibling was bullying me and I asked for her advice. She told me to “tell anyone who says mean things about me that they don’t know what they’re talking about.” I scoffed at her over-simplified advice, but I tried it. And it worked: she taught me to dismantle the power behind words and for that I’m forever grateful. . Lastly, it wasn’t until her death that I became aware of how much charitable work she’d done over her lifetime. One in particular stood out to me- she volunteered with those suffering from trauma or enduring traumatic life events. She was a class act.

This Inheritance Period piece is a nod to my grandmother, a first-generation American. The soft folds of pink hues mixed with the gentle whites are a testament to her feminine nature. + #beckmetzbower #inheritanceperiod #americanartist #contemporaryart #abstractart #metzbower #beck #art #artist #inheritance #artwork #fineart #abstractoilpainting #femaleartist #womeninthearts #shesculptswithoilpaint

I’m grateful for @familysearch and @usnatarchives for their (well preserved ) genealogical records and free public access. . I’m not getting paid to promote them or anything- I simply used their services in conjunction with Inheritance Period and am grateful for their support in preserving U.S. records- especially immigration records. . History is lost when we forget.

I needed a throwback today. . This is one of the rare subject paintings that I chose to share publicly. This piece was inspired by the movie What Dreams May Come, starring the late Robin Williams. . When I got to the scene where the entire landscape is made of edible paint- my jaw dropped. . Go watch the film if you haven't. . #beckmetzbower #beckmetzbowerpiece #americanartist #contemporaryart #femaleartist #metzbower #beck #art #fineart #abstractart #womeninthearts #modernart #shesculptswithoilpaint #whatdreamsmaycome #robinwilliams #paint #painting

Hey. This post is definitely a gratitude post and shameless plug for Tuesday's 100 for 100 Fundraiser. . I am SO thankful that this year was filled with so much art. I realize that I'm doing what a lot of other artist wish they could be doing- turning their creative drive/passion/core into a career. I'm grateful to be an artist. . Challenges like funding and all the obstacles that go into putting on a privately funded art exhibition/installation can be daunting- but I've navigated these challenges pretty well and I've done it on *my* terms- not the art industry's. . So thank you to everyone who reads these posts, follows my Instagram or Facebook, visits my website, signs up to get emails, and invests in my art. I see you and I love you guys! . XOXO, Beck

I have a secret green series releasing in 2020. This is the only post I'll make about it until the day before it releases. And yes, I'll notify my registered Art Collectors beforehand. Gotta give them some kind of bonus for letting me send them emails and for supporting my work ; )

2020 is my decade anniversary in the arts. Ten years since I started making art intentionally. + + Over the past decade, I’ve made hundreds of pieces art and exhibited in dozens of places. + + I’m deeply humbled and grateful to be doing what I love, what drives me, and what fills my cup. + + And just as grateful for people like you- who do simple things like read a caption or like a post all the way to traveling hours to see one of my live annual exhibitions. Thank you.

Funny story: you cannot use recycled canvas if there has been sharpie marker on the original surface. The ink in sharpies will rise to the top- right through the oil paint. Notice the red/pink ink in this image? #recanvased

I'll never forget the exhibit where a kid thought this was made of chocolate and tried to bite it. Ironically, it's also the day I had to make rules about kids at my shows. Mainly: feed them beforehand.
