So today I had a big chat with @kpnutnut telling her how I was coming in below calories etc and how good was that...apparently, no, that’s not good - come hell or high water I have to have 13300 calories every week so that’s why my calories are set where they are!! I can’t emphasize how good these CURRY PEANUT NOODLES are 🥜 Peanut noodles are one of my favorite recipes in a pinch, all you really need is spaghetti and peanut butter on hand. But think of this one as an upgraded, cooler and more mature version 😆 I swear this tastes straight out of a restaurant! LET’S TALK ABOUT PROTEIN!! . The number one thing I find most of my new clients have in common? They don’t get enough protein! When I first start a program with a client I have them track their current diet so I can get a proper view of how they are currently eating and what we need to improve on. And what I’ve found is the average woman is only getting around 30-40g of protein a day! #facepalm . Now this may be enough protein to survive.. but it’s certainly not enough to thrive. Depending on activity level and specific goals I recommend that each of my clients takes in .8-1.2g of protein per lb of bodyweight. . Have you ever noticed that protein is the only macro nutrient that doesn’t get shit on by diet trends? It’s for good reason. . So what does increasing your protein intake actually do? . It will help you maintain and build lean muscle mass. When you strength train you create micro tears in your muscles - when you consume protein your body breaks it down into amino acids and surrounds and fills those tears - resulting in muscle growth. . Consuming protein increases levels of the hormone glucagon, and glucagon helps to control body fat! Glucagon is released when blood sugar levels go down. This causes the liver to break down stored glycogen into glucose for the body. In other words, Glucagon signals the body to release fat to be used for fuel. . Eating protein reduces appetite and keeps hunger in check! Protein takes longer to digest, therefore it keeps you full for longer. In addition protein also helps to regulate your hunger hormones. . Eating protein increases your metabolism and actually burns more calories! Protein has a thermic effect in the body - meaning the body expends energy or burns calories during the digestion process. Compared to other macro nutrients protein has a much higher thermic effect! . So what’s the bottom line? If you want to lose weight, build muscle, improve your metabolic health and increase your immune system CONSUME MORE PROTEIN! . I am OBSESSED with @truleannutrition Vegan Plant Based Protein.
