Finally putting my strength training to use by transforming all that strength and power on to the track, 200kg Squats were challenging, now it’s easy peasy. 210kg Squats will soon get smashed for 5 reps and the intensional is to get Strong AF and Sprint like freaking mustang on fire!! 😎 The force-velocity curve shows us that the heavier a weight is, the slower you can lift it and the lighter a weight is, the faster you can lift it. But if all your training focuses on moving light weights quickly (i.e., sprinting ), you'll never maximize your ability to apply maximal force. Gone are the days where your purely dependent on pure skill and god given talent. Over the years I’ve focused on pure strength. Give me a barbell and I would probably Squat, Deadlift all day..all year long. That was and still is my go to place of solace. Now that I’ve started learning to sprint. Yes I’m still and always will be a student of sports and exercise science, hence this post, not many people realise that You need to build a strong strength foundation to excel in any sport..sorry to burst your bubble, but Bodyweight strength routine ain’t gonna help you compete or get you a medal at the highest level. Take sprinting for instance, some of the elite sprinters squat 3x their body weight..that’s phenomenal..cos all our lives we’ve been taught lifting heavy weights will make your legs big in return your speed will drop. I only wish I could find whoever came up with that notion..I would really want to take him down to phantom Ville for one epic smacking!! 😂 But the truth is guys, start lifting..start building your strength, specially all you young track and field athletes, get stronger! Focus more on your ground work, lay the foundation that’s rock solid and then see you excel in your sport!! It’s magical!! #phantomboss Stick to the process. It doesn’t happen over night..it might take a month, 6 months or even a year, Stay Consistent..Keep Progressing.
