🌱Crispy Cauliflower Steaks with Avocado Pea Pesto Pasta (Serves about 3 )🌱 Credit: @cookingforpeanuts . My recipes are too long😂. 💚Pesto recipe in comments. Recipe: ✅Preheat oven to 425F. ✅Remove outer leaves from 1 large cauliflower. Trim stem, leaving cauliflower intact. ✅Slice cauliflower head through the middle. ✅Slice 3/4 -inch steaks through one half. Repeat for other side. You should get 3 to 4 steaks. ✅Rub both sides and tops of steaks with generous sprinkle of salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Set aside ✅ In a medium bowl: mix 3/4 cups flour, 1 tbsp cornstarch, 1 tsp smoked paprika, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon fine grind black pepper, 3/4 tsp salt (or to taste ). Transfer to a small rimmed baking sheet or dish. ✅Add 3/4 cup non-dairy milk to small rimmed dish. ✅Dip both sides cauliflower steaks into milk. Use spoon to get into cracks and tops ✅Dip into flour mixture until fully coated on both sides, using a spoon to place flour into cracks. Shake to remove excess. ✅Pan-sear the cauliflower steaks before roasting. Heat oil (about 1/4-inch high ) in non-stick skillet and cook 3 minutes each side. Use tongs to sear tops. (Do not need to brown. ) ✅ Place pan-seared steaks onto a large non-stick baking sheet (no parchment paper ). Transfer the steaks to the oven and bake for 10 minutes. ✅Remove from oven and flip. Brush both sides of steaks with some of the remaining milk as needed, until no white floured parts remain. ✅Roast for about 10 to 15 minutes more, until cauliflower is fork tender. (Brush with more milk as needed. ) ✅Broil the cauliflower for 2 to 3 minutes (if desired ) until very browned and crispy. How to structure your week of workouts for optimal muscle growth!💪🏼💥 Now that we’ve covered load, frequency and volume on last week’s post, this week we are covering ‘how to structure a week of workouts’ Research has shown that the most optimal set up to gain muscle when training is to target each muscle group at least 2X a week (e.g if you want to grow your arms, glutes, chest etc ) So if you can only commit 2X a week then training full body is optimal, similarly if you can commit 3X a week you could do an upper body, a lower body and a full body workout split. Doing all your training for a specific muscle group in one session (particularly if you can commit to a limited amount of sessions each week ) will not only be suboptimal, but will also slow your progress in growing that muscle group, where as splitting the training across the week will allow you to recover quicker and speed your progression. So its Monday and you might be feeling a little weekend guilt and beating yourself up over an indulgent weekend 🍔🍕🍩🍷🍸 Often my clients first come to me with feelings of guilt when they eat certain foods and my first response is 'why do you feel bad? You ate something you wanted to eat... you just lived your life!' Shifting that mindset is a key priority of my coaching. You are going to have days where you pick pizza 🍕 or salad 🥗 , or a night out over a gym session 💃🏼 Guess what- THAT'S LIFE! It's made for living! ➡️Having a weekend 'off track' isn't going to hinder your progress so relax about one bad day. ➡️One 'bad' meal won't make or break your progress, just don't let that 'bad' meal turn into a day, week or month. ➡️You don't need to punish with endless hours of cardio for eating something you didn't plan for. ➡️Building a better relationship with food takes time. Try shifting your mentaility that there are no 'good' foods and 'bad' foods. Some foods are more nutrtient dense and should make up around 80% of your diet and other foods more calorie dense, delicious and should make up 20% of your diet. ✔️MY ADVICE? You can spend Monday dwelling on the fact you ate or drank something over the weekend or you can accept it for what it is and move on. There's no better time to get back on track. Time to TAKE ACTION... prep your meals, smash your workouts and continue to make progress. We are in this 'fitness' thing for the long haul.
