Happy pub day to @dacoauffenorde and thank you for sending me a copy of your book to read and review! Cover Your Tracks was a wild ride! It starts off with an avalanche causing a train to derail, and we then follow the story of two unrelated people who managed to escape the train before the derailment. The action started right away and kept on going until the end. It was definitely hard to put down and I read it in less than 24 hours because I had to know where it was headed and how it ended. What I liked: the fast pace, the unique premise, the creep factor, and the way the book was told in multiple timelines. What I especially liked was the way the timelines were used to give the backstories of the two main characters. It allowed me to slowly put the pieces together and gain a better sense of who these two people were as individuals. However, despite knowing these details, the book still kept me guessing for quite a while. What I didn’t like: The book includes several descriptions of animal violence and mutilation and I actually had to lightly skim or completely skip over those parts. While I understand that it was part of the story, I could’ve done without the detailed descriptions. There were also a few indigenous slurs, though the author personally reached out to me to let me know that she requested to have them removed from the final copies. If you enjoy fast paced thrillers and dual timelines, this is worth checking out. However, please take heed of the content warnings if you have any specific triggers. CW: indigenous slurs (which are being removed from the final copies ), animal violence and mutilation, attempted abortion, forced adoption.
I quit my job last Friday. In the middle of a pandemic. With no plan. Needless to say, I need to escape to a fantasy world. The Renegades series has been perfect for that. The characters are so diverse and interesting, and I’m a sucker for the sweet romance it gives us. I may not find a new career between the pages of Supernova, but it is inspiring me to write, so there’s that! 😬 QOTD: Were you awkward as a kid? 😬 . AOTD: Yes, but I was also really introverted, so people tended to perceive me as "well behaved" rather than "super weird." Then they got to know me and learned how wrong they were 😂 . 🎉 Happy book birthday to @holly_lorka ! 🎉 I recently received a copy of her book Handsome from the publisher, @booksparks , and I can't wait to give it a read. . Synopsis: As a horny little kid, Holly Lorka had no idea why God had put her in the wrong body and made her want to kiss girls. She had questions: Was she a monster? Would she ever be able to grow sideburns? And most importantly, where was her penis? . The problem was, it was the 1970s, so there were no answers yet. . Here, Lorka tells the story—by turns hilarious and poignant—of her romp through the first fifty years of her life searching for sex, love, acceptance, and answers to her questions. With a sharp wit, endearing innocence, and indelible sense of optimism, she struggles through the awkward years (spoiler: that’s all of them ) and discovers that what she thought were mistakes are actually powerful tools to launch her into a magical—and ridiculous—life. . . #bookstagram #bookblogger #bibliophile #booknerd #books #booklove #bookish #booksofinstagram #booknerdigans #bookworm #reader #bookaddict #reading #readersofinstagram #hollylorka #handsome #booksparks #indiebookbox #memoir #awkward #booksbooksbooks #readersofig #readmorebooks #readingislife #indiebooks
Mexican Gothic Review! __ Gabrielle here! 👋🏻 MG was our book club pick for October and I’ll start by saying... this probably would have been a DNF for me if it wasn’t for my book club girls pushing me to finish it (ahem, @tlovertu ). __ For starters, this isn’t my type of book to begin with, so take my review with a grain of salt! I found the story to be ODD and the writing just... wasn’t good. It felt like a lot of dialogue and strange dreams and MUSHROOMS (if you know, you know ) and no movement to the story at all. Just a few chapters into the book I had to switch to audio just to get through 🙈 all in all, just not a fan... maybe there’s hope for the Hulu series to be better?? 1⭐️ for me 🤷🏻♀️ __ Have you read it? Thoughts!?
It’s Tuesday which means some fancy schmantsy books came out today! REVIVING THE HAWTHORNE SISTERS: just in time for Halloween this gothic thriller follows Eve Chandler, the granddaughter of a renowned envangelist/actual con artist. Chandler keeps up her grandmothers legacy even after her death until a stranger tries to expose a murder her grandmother apparently was a part of, taking Chandler all the way back to 1934 [ #gifted ] HANDSOME: a memoir spanning 50 years of Holly Lorkas life as she tries to figure out why she wants to kiss girls, why she doesn’t have a penis, and where she can find love and acceptance [ #gifted as part of the #indiebookbox ] Don’t these sound great? Are there any new books that are on your radar?
A warm hello to all. I am a hueman in my mid 20s and a lit major student. Thank you to @booksparks for this lovely addition in my #Fall2020Stacks . Boop and Eve’s Road Trip, a story about a road trip that a grandmother and her granddaughter take together (okay this is a dream! ) focuses on the complexities of life at all ages. It’s a wonderful narrative that has readers thinking about the way life unfolds—between love, mental health issues, family problems (and secrets! ) this book is a touching story of family and relationships ❤️ I’ve never read a book that focused on this family dynamic and I’m so happy to have it!

👋🏻 Meet Danielle S (Fun fact: there are 3 Danielles in our book club! ): Full-time worker AND student, Danielle S has always been one of the busiest people I know. In high school, we bonded over our love of the @jonasbrothers and, OMJ, that hasn’t really changed! Well, we don’t say OMJ anymore, so some things have changed for the better... • 📚 while she hasn’t had a ton of time to read lately, she’s part of the club to help her kickstart the habit again. She typically reads in the mornings or on her days off. She loves reading fiction, her favorite author is @jodipicoult , and she’s never really read thrillers, but being in this group, she’ll be giving them a go to appease our dark and twisted minds 🤗
#BookReview Partnership! Thank you @booksparks & @shewritespress for this gifted copy of #Handsom by Holly Lorka & happy pub day🥳🥳🥳 I found this collection of essays to very honest and often times very funny but also sad at times! I wasn't sure what to expect when I got this book, but I can definitely say that it is a good read! The first chapter will definitely let you know that this book isn't for faint of heart. Holly is not shy about the past and the things that she has done. What's great about this book is that it reminds you that no matter what you may be experiencing, you do not have to be alone. Synopsis: As a horny little kid, Holly Lorka had no idea why God had put her in the wrong body and made her want to kiss girls. She had questions: Was she a monster? Would she ever be able to grow sideburns? And most importantly, where was her penis? The problem was, it was the 1970s, so there were no answers yet. Oh, and she discovers that she can buy a penis at the store, too. #sparkpress #hollylorka #indieread #lgbtqreads #lgbtq #rainbow #theseventies #booksparks #booksharks
DRIPPY WITH SYMBOLISM. Rife with imagery, refined with minute details, and deeply embedded themes that leave you ruminating for days after - this book is oof. 5 stars. A quick summation of the plot; A couple and a woman named Frances find themselves in a ramshackle, English mansion - once beautiful but ransacked by military men. They are all there to stay on the property and evaluate what is left. Frances finds a peephole built into floor of her bathroom floor that looks into the bathroom of Cara + Peter, the couple. Cara and Peter begin to intertwine their life with Frances’ and a summer she will never forget, begins. While you’d think that a peephole in the bathroom floor is the center of this book - it’s not. Frances, a lonely and unloved woman, becomes entranced by Cara and Peter and they all begin to take liberties with each other and with the mansion. It’s a slow burn while you see the relationship between a stranger and a couple twist and turn and how the lines of truth and infatuation become blurred. You don’t know what the hell is going on most of the book and then the fruit drops. Ha. Get it? THE HIGHS: - A strange sight, a weird stench, a creak - you have the feeling of impending doom the entire book - Perfectly flawed characters with fucked up interrelationships (lots of them ) - Fuller’s writing is impeccable and all-absorbing - An ending that will make it all worth it - take my word for it THE NOTES: - It’s a slow burner (don’t let that discourage you, pls! ) - There are a few gaps in plot that left me with questions at the end of the book - A lot of internal dialogue (Frances as the narrator ) - Wish this had been a book club read because there is so much to digest!! My recommendation: READ THIS BOOK. I am such a dolt. Honestly. I was supposed to post my #fall2020stacks for @booksparks much earlier than this, but alas, it got pushed to the wayside. With my books all over the place and boxes everywhere preparing for our move, my mind has been mush. Thank God for reminder emails from @booksparks . I really wanted to focus on the 2 books that was gifted to me by @booksparks @shewritespress @forgereads because I really think they deserve the attention, so I made an anonymous stack. I’ve not been reading as much as I would like, but I assure you the books you can’t see I did read this past month. So let me tell you about these great books: First up is #andnowshesgone by @rhowzellhall @forgereads Pub 9/22/20 Isabel Lincoln is gone. But is she missing? It’s up to Grayson Sykes to find her. Although she is reluctant to track down a woman who may not want to be found, Gray’s search for Isabel Lincoln becomes more complicated and dangerous with every new revelation about the woman’s secrets and the truth she’s hidden from her friends and family. Second is #boopandevesroadtrip by @maryhelensheriff @shewritespress Pub 10/6/20 Eve Prince is done―with college, with her mom, with guys, and with her dream of fashion design. But when her best friend goes MIA, Eve must gather together the broken threads of her life in order to search for her. When Eve’s grandmother, Boop, a retiree dripping with Southern charm, finds out about the trip, she―desperate to see her sister, and also hoping to alleviate Eve’s growing depression―hijacks her granddaughter’s road trip. Boop knows from experience that healing Eve will require more than flirting lessons and a Garlic Festival makeover. Nevertheless, Boop is frustrated when her feeble efforts yield the same failure that her sulfur-laced sip from the Fountain of Youth wrought on her age. She knows that sharing the secret that’s haunted her for sixty years might be the one thing that will lessen Eve’s growing depression―but she also fears that if she reveals it, she’ll lose her family and her own hard-won happiness. Both of these already have fabulous reviews on Amazon, so check them out now! Happy Reading & Be Nice!
Hey Bookstafam! Lately I’ve been hating my bookshelf because it feels so dark. I swear I live in a cave lol. We barely get any sunlight so my black shelf just feels darker. I’ve been considering painting it white but it sounds like such a hassle! I still ended up taking a picture on said shelf cause I felt like dark just fit with this book. I received this from @booksparks and I am obsessed with the cover! It’s so gorgeous. And it sounds so good! If you are into historical romance then you would enjoy this one. I can’t wait to share my review with y’all soon. Synopsis: Sila, a young, bewitching Cherokee, flees a marriage to a brutal drunk in the dead of winter and finds herself knocking on the door of a mill office, destitute and looking for work. There, she meets the handsome Charley Barkley, the owner and a married father of ten. Despite the fact that they have virtually nothing in common―and thirty years between them―a spark ignites. For Charley, once their passionate love affair intensifies, there is no going back to his loveless marriage―especially after Sila is with child. They marry and his logging empire expands, as does their family. Though they face tragedy and treachery along the way, they thrive until, just when their lives seems perfect, Charley falls victim to cancer. Sila’s devastation at the loss of her husband is compounded by the onset of the Great Depression. With her inheritance gone and faced with losing her home, she is forced to do the unthinkable to protect herself and her children in a final act of survival. Inspired by a true story, and replete with natural healing, glimpses of the logging boom, and heartbreaking drama, Wolf Den Hollow brings to life this unlikely, captivating romance of the early 1900s. #gifted @booksparks ✨ It is cold and rainy here in Cincinnati and all I want to do is curl up in bed and read instead of working. I started The Endangereds by @pcousteau and @austinaslan last night and I am loving it! This middle grade novel addresses climate change and environmental science in a fresh way - from the perspective of four endangered animals. I can’t wait to hopefully finish this one after work because I need to know what happens! What’s the last book that you were fully engaged with from page one? It’s this one for me! @bookoholiccafe - All That Was by Tanya E. Williams Emily is a young lawyer and is given the job of archiving church’s history before the building is being torn down. She finds out that her parents were married in this church and came across some diaries that led her to know about Elizabeth Thomas who died in 1973.Despite the fact that they lived almost a century apart, they both share so many life experiences in common. Getting to know story’s main characters Emily and Elisabeth, from different time period, they both learn that in order to move on in life, they need to grieve for their losses. If not, they will always be stuck in the past. I liked the dual perspective storyline and complex female characters. All That Was is a story of two strong women dealing with their losses. I think it’s a real ghost story, ghosts are alive in this book and I really liked it. (considering the fact that I don’t believe in ghosts ). The Author did a great job intermingling time periods and describing the details. I recommend this book to those who enjoy historical fiction and ghost stories. my reading has kind of been all over lately. I began The Sweetness of Forgetting & Im enjoying it. I didn’t realize it also has a WW2 aspect which i normally enjoy but since it’s my 3rd book this year by kristin harmel i just feel it is getting repetitive. so i wanted to take a break and return to it. then i began 500 miles from you by Jenny Colgan. I was enjoying it too but it was classified as a romance and i got to page 200 and it was only just beginning. i kind of lost interest and don’t really care to read another 200 pages into the story. lol does this ever happen to you? maybe i’m just in a mood. but on a diff note! i’m picking up library holds today and i’m excited to be getting next year in havana and forever, interrupted. i’m excited for these 😍

3/5 ⭐️ My full written review is on @goodreads and @netgalley Thank you so much @randomhouse for the free e-copy. In Jodi’s usual fashion, she included a lot of heavy topics in this novel that keep you thinking. I enjoyed the story and took so much away from this book. At the same time there was almost too many topics covered for a single noble. Also, listening to it on audible can might make the time hopping more confusing. Overall I liked it, but it isn’t one of my favs from her. Have you read this? What did you think? #wordsandwine #thebookoftwoways #goodreads @audible #netgalley #netgalleyreads #netgalleyreviewer

Hi everyone! I can’t say this enough times but THANK YOU!!! For all the support, sharing, and donating, you guys are so amazing and we really appreciate all the help right now 😭 I wish I could give everyone a big hug! I’m doing my best to push through and stay positive. It’s been SO helpful that I’ve been able to focus on some other things. For one, there’s this stack of books I have for my #fall2020stacks . I’m about to start juggling 3 books! Aurora Rising, You Had Me at Hola (yay buddy read! ) and A Place Called Zamora 😍. I don’t know how long it’ll take me to finish this stack but that’s okay 🥰 no rush here! Another thing keeping me busy: My shop will also be opening on Thursday October 1st! I’m very excited to be doing this again and it’s been nice escaping in this way. What do you do to keep yourself busy? ——————————————— Tags: #miamireads #booklover #bookstagram #recommended #recommendedreading #bookstagrammer #goodreads #miamilife #miamibookclub #floridareader #goodbook #read #reading #readersofinsta #thedarklibrarians #booksbooksbooks #booknerd #booksofinstagram #newreads #readersofinstagram #readersofig #readingtime #thedarklibrarians #booksparks #bookrecommendations #readingnook #fall2020stacks #lbgschwandtner

Current Read🍂 Happy Friday! What is everyone currently reading? I’ve been in between a few books this week which I usually don’t do. Im a one book at a time kinda girl - BUT with moving to a new home I’ve gotten so far behind so I had to step my game up! The Talented Miss Farwell is an exhilarating story about the brilliant Miss Farwell. Rebecca Farwell is from small town Pierson Illinois where everyone knows everyone. Miss Farwell resides in her family’s farmhouse and works as the towns treasurer. The townspeople are grateful for Rebecca- she always finds a way for her struggling town to earn a little extra money. Although Rebecca is a stand up member in her small community, she has a secret life outside of Pierson. Miss Farwell has an obsession with collecting and selling art. This hobby of hers is not completed in Illinois but the great NYC. She is part of an elite and wealthy society where she is known for making extreme amount of money on her art sales. Miss Farwell is one of those characters who you hate but also love. Rebecca is brilliant and knows what she wants but she’s also manipulative and a con artist. Im not super far in yet but this is definitely a page turner & its kinda great reading about a female con artist😂 Stay tuned for a full review! The Silent Conspiracy by L.C. Shaw My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is the second book of the Jack Logan Series. I haven’t read the first book “The Network” but this book can be read as a stand-alone. Taylor and Jack are getting used to their life together parenting Evan, Taylor’s son. Taylor is a media freelancer who is focusing on interviewing families whose insurance claims were rejected. And jack is investigating a series of random suicides and murders. They come together and begin to make connections between their discoveries and link up their stories to solve this case. they come to realize that Damon Cross, Evan’s biological father (from the previous book ) has faked his death and is roaming freely pursuing something in Jack and Taylor’s life. This was a thriller full of actions and tensions. A fast-paced, gripping, and suspenseful story. Although the story can be read as a stand-alone, I was a bit confused as at points it was tied back to the first book. The storyline was very interesting and twisty, I was able to connect with the textured characters. I do recommend to thriller readers and I recommend that they read book one as well. Thank you @lcshawauthor and @suzyapprovedbooktours for having me in this amazing book tour 💬 Do you prefer to read stand-alone series? #bookoholiccafe #booksharks #bookishlife #bookwormforlife #readingislove #bookdragon #alwaysreading #booksparks #lovethisbook #bookjunkie #litmas #bookishfeed #bookishphoto #readaholic #bookishgirl #booksarelife #readingislit #fortheloveofreading #bookrecs #esilentconspiracy
