HOW TO BUILD A SOLID CORE . . . Functional training, or training that works on movements and strengths you need to live rather than the single-muscle, high-rep moves used for aesthetics, is essential for building a strong "core". Some simple and effective functional moves to introduce include standard planks and side planks, rollouts, walking lunges and mountain climbers, and more. Another GREAT way to maximize your core training is to throw in some background core work. If you’re on the bench, or doing cable row, or even pull-ups, don’t let your body go dead from the waist down. Instead, brace your core, drawing it in toward your spine to help stabilize yourself and move the weights or your body. Maintain this mind-muscle connection during every workout. If you lost 2lbs every week for 6 months...that’s 52lbs. . In a year...-104lbs. . Only 2lbs/week. . Just 2lbs? . Seems like nothing. . But it isn’t. . That’s huge. . So huge, in fact, almost nobody can sustain that amount of weight loss each week past the first month or two of dieting. . Now think about this. . If you added 10lbs to your bench press every month for a year...that’s +120lbs. . In two years...+240lbs. . In three years...+ 360lbs. . And that’s only +10lbs per MONTH. . Per MONTH. . Think about that. . That means if you bench press twice per week, you would only add 10lbs to your bench press every 8 workouts. . 10lbs? . Every 8 workouts? . That seems like nothing. . But it isn’t. . It’s huge. . So huge, in fact, it’s essentially impossible. . Imagine how many people would be bench pressing 300lbs+ if all it took was benching twice/week for 3 years. . The reality? . Your strength won’t increase as quickly as you want. . Your weight won’t drop as quickly as you want. . It’s safe to say, you will never progress as quickly as you want. . That’s ok. . It doesn’t mean you hit a plateau. . It means it’s normal. . This is all part of the process. . So shut the fuck up. . Be patient. . Have fun. . And enjoy the process. .
