😴 Sleep is just as important as the food we give our children. We wouldn’t raise our kids on “junk” food so why would we raise them on “junk” sleep?! . 🧠 The most crucial period for growth are your baby’s first 3 years of life. Healthy sleep boosts brain development and promotes learning. Research shows that children who sleep longer retain more knowledge than those who sleep less. . 💪🏽 There is a direct relationship between poor-quality sleep and deficient levels of growth hormones needed for physical development. Healthy sleep encourages your child’s growth. . ⛹🏻‍♀️ Quality sleep makes for a stronger immune system and supports physical health. Poor sleep, including during childhood is linked to higher rates of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. . 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Make sleep a priority for your whole family! . . #independentsleepskills #sleepconsultant #sleepconsulting #sleepcoach #babysleeptips #sleephelp #babysleep #childsleep #childsleepconsultant #sleepexpert #childsleepexpert #teachsleep #healthysleep #healthysleephabits #sleephealth #sleephygiene #sleeptraining #sleepsense #babyhealth #needsleep #babysleepconsultant #tiredmom #sleepingpandassleepconsulting #sleepingpandaspediatricsleepconsulting

#TRUTH So I’m doing a few days of live-in care for a past client. 18 month old TWIN BOYS. I’m super happy for my client who has only been away from them twice their entire lives. She needs this time to recharge. BADLY!! Wonderful friends she has to encourage her to get away and be human for a few days. 🤸‍♀️ 🎉 🌞 But y’all these little dudes are BUSY and MESSY and run CRAZY hard 💯 of the time. I literally want to hose them down after meal time, which is obviously 3+ times per day 😆 when nap time came today, I bee lined it to the shower. Legit had to wash my pits 3x because the stank was so bad!! The silver lining is that they are amazing sleepers! 😴 I helped to sleep train them when they were 6 months old and sleep isn’t a struggle! 1.5-2.5 hour naps and 11-12 at night. Few songs and into their cribs they go. Zero crying. Raising #TinyHumans is a lot of work! There are fun times and really challenging phases. Sleep doesn’t need to be a challenge. #TeachSleep skills early in life, so that the whole family can rest and #Sleep well every night (and for every nap )! . . . . . . . . . . #PediatricSleepConsultantBoise #BabySleepCoachIdaho #SleepConsultantBoise #NightNanny #TargetMom #Twinning #FraternalTwins #IdenticalTwins #BoyGirlTwins #MonoDiTwins #Baby #Newborn #TeachSleep #TheEarlyWeeks #TinyHumans

🤪 A lil’ humor to start off the weekend for you! Although this cartoon is meant to poke fun at parents..this is actually a great tip that I encourage moms to do when they need to break the “feeding-to-sleep” association with their babies. . 🍼 Between 4-6 months most babies either breastfed or formula fed are ready to start sleeping through the night without a required feeding. As long as your baby is of age-appropriate weight and is meeting all of their caloric intake requirements during the day then they should not be needing feeds any time at night. If they are waking up during the night then this is because they haven’t fully learned how to get themselves back to sleep independently and need the presence of mom, the breast or bottle, or rocking, and so on to help them go back to sleep. And so often these middle of the night wakings are mistaken for hunger. Well, if I started waking up and every night someone gave me a piece of cheesecake at 3am..it would probably start to become a habit and then I would expect my 3am cheesecake every night going forward right?! . 👨🏻 So next time, send Dad into the nursery for night wakings for a few nights..your baby will start to learn how to disassociate the need to feed to get back to sleep. . ❓ Let me know if you have any questions about this or are having trouble. . . #feedingtosleep #sleephabits #independentsleepskills #sleepconsultant #sleepconsulting #sleepcoach #babysleeptips #sleephelp #babysleep #childsleep #childsleepconsultant #sleepexpert #childsleepexpert #teachsleep #healthysleep #healthysleephabits #sleephealth #sleephygiene #sleeptraining #sleepsense #babyhealth #needsleep #babysleepconsultant #tiredmom #sleepingpandassleepconsulting #sleepingpandaspediatricsleepconsulting

I can't recall what year this was taken but I remember the evening perfectly. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ That's the Hudson River behind me. I was part of a fundraiser for a local environmental group. This photo captures the moment as I lead people in the chorus of a song I co-wrote with George Wurzbach, "Pony Polka". I also sang some Joni Mitchell and an American Songbook standard. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ These songs make me happy. I never learned or wrote them to please someone else or "get the gig" which is the best reason to learn a song and one of the great joys of sharing songs with young children. Sure, music can help you learn and those with a better sense of rhythm get off the bench and on the field. But the real reason we sing and make music is because it brings us so much joy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ . . . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #bestchester #throwbackthursday #hudsonriver #hastingsny #makemoremusic #ponypolka #childrensmusic #westchestercounty #creativity #moremusicplease #musicwithkids #sleepytime #sleepytimeclub #sleeptrainanyage #westchesterlifecoach #bedtimeroutines #westchesterwriter #gaiawomen #happyhabits #instasleep #mindfulness #teachsleep #sleepfirst #healthyhabits #westchestermoms #firstbesthabit #getyoursleepon #thismamasleeps #realzzz #purezzz

🤱🏼 Bedtime & nap routines should not be drawn out and complicated. For routines to work, just keep it short and simple, 15-30 mins (shorter for younger babies ). For example: 🛀 Bath 👚 Pajamas 📖 Story 🌊 White noise 🌑 Lights out 😙 Kiss goodnight . ⏰ Just make sure to aim for around the same time each day and follow the same sequence of steps every time. . 🥱 Our little ones who don’t have a concept of time yet, need routines to help them feel secure in knowing what happens next. It gives them a sense of control in their new, ever changing and exciting environment. These important steps serve as a cue for your baby to understand that sleep is near or comes next. . 🌙 So remember this the next time you are going through your little’s bedtime routine..oh and don’t forget the goodnight kiss 😘! . . #bedtime #bedtimeroutine #routines #babyroutine #independentsleepskills #sleepconsultant #sleepconsulting #sleepcoach #babysleeptips #sleephelp #babysleep #childsleep #childsleepconsultant #sleepexpert #childsleepexpert #teachsleep #healthysleep #healthysleephabits #sleephealth #sleephygiene #sleeptraining #sleepsense #babyhealth #needsleep #babysleepconsultant #tiredmom #sleepingpandassleepconsulting #sleepingpandaspediatricsleepconsulting

👶🏻 Since October is #SIDSawareness month..this month’s Sleeping Panda Baby of the Month is my very own 🐼 EJ. It seems like just yesterday that I was rocking him in my arms and shushing him to sleep..and I can’t help but to think back to those sleepless nights. . 🤱🏻 Like most newborns, he was a pretty decent sleeper until about 3 months old when it all seemed to go downhill. He no longer wanted to sleep in his crib and I couldn’t get him to sleep for more than 30 mins at a time..day or night. To say that the both of us were exhausted is putting it nicely. I was at my breaking point..that time was the hardest part of my life I had ever endured..and I’ve been through hell and back 3x over. I failed as a mother. I was even jealous and bitter at my dogs for sleeping while I wasn’t. . 🥺 I remember that month was the only visit at the Dr when my baby never gained any weight. I was breastfeeding and he seemed to be feeding fine..but he wasn’t getting the hours of sleep that he needed to grow and be healthy. I knew then that something had to change. But what was I doing wrong? After weeks of staying up and searching the internet for an answer, I came across the Sleep Sense book and as the name states..it finally all made sense as to why my son was not sleeping. He needed to learn how to be an independent sleeper. And I was doing all the wrong things. . 🤷🏻‍♀️ As a nurse, I always thought I was doing the right thing and following safe sleep guidelines..but as a sleep deprived and exhausted mom, I had tried everything to get my baby to sleep. The first 2 pictures here are of EJ this past week, now almost 22 months old. The rest are of him at 3 & 4 months..during our quest for sleep. Can you spot the unhealthy sleep “No-no’s?” . . #safesleep #safesleepsolutions #SIDS #independentsleepskills #sleepconsultant #sleepconsulting #sleepcoach #babysleeptips #sleephelp #babysleep #childsleep #childsleepconsultant #sleepexpert #childsleepexpert #teachsleep #healthysleep #healthysleephabits #sleephealth #sleephygiene #sleeptraining #sleepsense #babyhealth #needsleep #babysleepconsultant #tiredmom #sleepingpandassleepconsulting #sleepingpandaspediatricsleepconsulting

"How do I know if I should sleep train? And when?" . There is no right or wrong time to work on teaching sleep (as long as old enough and medically cleared ). . If you mama (yes YOU ) are exhausted and/or frustrated, sick of living in straight survival mode - it might be time. . If you want to help build a healthy sleep foundation for your infant - it might be time. . If your once great sleeper is now up at all hours - it might be time. . If your in your toddlers room until 9:30 pm every night - it might be time. . If you need your bed back - it might be time. . While there is no right or wrong reason to teach sleep, if problematic sleep has occurred for longer than TWO WEEKS then something may need to be adjusted. . Illness, travel, developmental milestones (rolling, walking, talking. etc ) can all cause sleep disruptions; however, these disruptions typically fall back in line after a few days. If a pattern persists, it is time to make some adjustments. . If you sleep trained your child, what was your sign? 🚫🛑 . . . . #sleeptraining #whencanisleeptrain #whywontmybabysleep #babysleepschedule #babysleep #naps #infantsleep #newbornsleep #toddlersleep #whysleeptrain #teachsleep #fourthtrimester #midnightnursingfeed #sahm #latenightnursingfeed #momshelpingmoms #fourmonthsold #sleepregression #leap #wonderweek #tiredmommy #honestmotherhood #motherhoodunplugged #motherhoodunhinged #sleeptips #sleepcoach #sleepconsultant #bedtime #naptime #bedtimebattle

🥺 If you’ve just tossed and turned all night, and now you have to get up and go to work on this 3-4 hours of lousy sleep..this would be the set up for an even lousier day. . 👶🏼 Now imagine your baby who’s been up multiple times throughout the night and didn’t get the 10-12 hours of sleep they needed to be well rested and now has to be up to eat & play all day...that’s a set up for one cranky baby. Our babies brains & bodies are taking in so much stimuli during the day. Every sight, sound, & smell is brand new and exciting for them and they need their sleep to be able to process it all. They need to be alert so they can enjoy all of it. Babies who sleep well are generally happier babies. . 😴 A recent study out of the University of Binghamton revealed results found that subjects who slept less were more likely to experience "repetitive negative thoughts" while completing set tasks. . 🌙 The more telling finding was that this was also true of subjects who got "enough" sleep, but got it later at night, suggesting that not just the amount of sleep, but the timing of that sleep, is critical. Humans are built for nighttime sleeping, despite what self-proclaimed "night owls" might say. . 😀 Even when people describe their own levels of happiness, being well-rested comes out on top--researchers Daniel Kahneman and Alan B. Krueger found in their research on life satisfaction a direct correlation between sleep quality and overall happiness. In fact, they found sleep quality was the single most influential factor in rating daily mood, too. A recent Gallup poll got the same results: people who get adequate sleep are more likely to rate their lives as happier. . 💃🏻 And we all know if mama gets her sleep then the whole family is happy. . . #happymom #sleephappy #independentsleepskills #sleepconsultant #sleepconsulting #sleepcoach #babysleeptips #sleephelp #babysleep #childsleep #childsleepconsultant #sleepexpert #childsleepexpert #teachsleep #healthysleep #healthysleephabits #sleephealth #sleephygiene #sleeptraining #sleepsense #babyhealth #needsleep #babysleepconsultant #tiredmom #sleepingpandassleepconsulting #sleepingpandaspediatricsleepconsulting

Repost from @officiallyem and @raisedgood ··· “ Hugs, midnight cuddles and comforting have no expiry date. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Breastfeed to sleep and through the night if it works for you mama (it did for me! ). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Lay with your 5 or 8 or 12-year-old as they fall asleep if they need you to (or if you want to! ). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hold them close. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Forget the milestones and accept the as is of the present moment, the reality of very slow pace of healthy child development. Don't judge or second guess. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Flow, don't resist. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Snuggle with your toddler. Hug your teen. Let them be little. Let yourself fall deeply in love with this new soul who shares your life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Affection and loving touch cannot "spoil" your child - it is the opposite that's true! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We covet independence as a culture, yet we don't fully understand it. If we did, we wouldn't push our children away. We would have a deep knowing that as my friend @dr .vanessalapointe says, “It is out of the gift of deep dependence that true independence emerges." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So cuddle those babies, hold your children and when they're ready to start taking steps away, they will. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Couldn’t love these words from @officiallyem more 🙏 #raisedgood

🌱 Growth Spurts/Leaps and Developmental Milestones: Your baby will go through many growth spurts in the first year. It can cause your baby to need to feed more and at times become fussier. These growth spurts typically happen when your baby is around 2-3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months old. But your baby's growth spurts may not happen at these exact times. Growth spurts can happen at any time, and every baby is different. Growth spurts usually last only a few days. . 🚼 When your baby is learning a new skill or going through a cognitive leap, this is an exciting time for them and this new skill will compete with your child’s needs for sleep. Sometimes experts may refer to these as sleep regressions. Usually milestone related sleep disruptions only last 1-2 weeks at most and after your child has mastered the new skill then their sleep should go back to normal. . 🤸‍♀️ During these times it’s especially important to give them plenty of activity time during the day to practice these skills (rolling over, sitting up, crawling, pulling up to stand, walking, talking, and so on ), so that they don’t keep themselves up at night trying to do it in their cribs. . 📝 Also, remember to stick to the routine and don’t introduce any new sleep habits. If your child has been having sleep troubles for more than 2 weeks then most likely it is not a milestone related issue and it is now a sleep problem. . 🧏🏼‍♀️ Does this sound like something you may be going through now with your little one? What types of new developments may be interrupting your baby’s sleep? . . #developmentalmilestones #sleepregression #babygrowthspurt #independentsleepskills #sleepconsultant #sleepconsulting #sleepcoach #babysleeptips #sleephelp #babysleep #childsleep #childsleepconsultant #sleepexpert #childsleepexpert #teachsleep #healthysleep #healthysleephabits #sleephealth #sleephygiene #sleeptraining #sleepsense #babyhealth #needsleep #babysleepconsultant #tiredmom #sleepingpandassleepconsulting #sleepingpandaspediatricsleepconsulting

🤱🏽Developing healthy sleep habits early on will definitely help your child carry those skills into adulthood but it’s also never too late to start learning and practicing good sleep hygiene. . 😴 Our sleep and quality of sleep is highly reflective on our personal habits and what’s going on in our environment. I’m guilty of going to bed too late, binge watching a new show, and scrolling on my phone in the middle of the night, but I know what to do and how to correct it. Our children don’t..that’s why they need you to help guide them and teach them a better way and get them back on schedule. . 💝 I refer to sleep training as an investment and a gift you can give your child because healthy sleep will reward itself 10x over. Your child will be healthier overall, smarter, more energetic, and more emotionally balanced and this will help them become healthier adults who sleep well. . 🚂 💤 So whether your child is 8 months old or 8 years old..it’s not too late to get on the sleep train! All aboard! . . #nevertoolate #giftofsleep #independentsleepskills #sleepconsultant #sleepconsulting #sleepcoach #babysleeptips #sleephelp #babysleep #childsleep #childsleepconsultant #sleepexpert #childsleepexpert #teachsleep #healthysleep #healthysleephabits #sleephealth #sleephygiene #sleeptraining #sleepsense #babyhealth #needsleep #babysleepconsultant #tiredmom #sleepingpandassleepconsulting #sleepingpandaspediatricsleepconsulting

🤷🏼‍♀️ So you finally found yourself settled in a good lil’ groove with baby’s naps and all of a sudden it’s a struggle again. Our babies grow..and quick! The older they get, the longer they are able to stay awake and the less naps they’ll need. Not necessarily less actual sleeping time but they learn to consolidate their naps to longer naps. . 🙇🏽‍♀️If your little one seems to be fighting sleep when it’s time for his/her nap..it may be time to drop a nap. Besides their age, here are a few more ways to tell if your baby is ready for a nap transition: . 🟢It takes them longer than 20 mins to fall asleep. 🟢They may refuse to nap all together, sometimes just laying there playing in the crib or crying. 🟢Their naps are getting shorter. 🟢They are having more wake-ups during the night or early morning. 🟢These changes have been going on for at least 2 weeks. . 🤱🏼 Do you think your little one is ready for the change? Maybe they are and you aren’t?! Let me know what your challenges are and I can help guide you to make the transition easier and smoother. . . #naps #babynap #napschedule #independentsleepskills #sleepconsultant #sleepconsulting #sleepcoach #babysleeptips #sleephelp #babysleep #childsleep #childsleepconsultant #sleepexpert #childsleepexpert #teachsleep #healthysleep #healthysleephabits #sleephealth #sleephygiene #sleeptraining #sleepsense #babyhealth #needsleep #babysleepconsultant #tiredmom #sleepingpandassleepconsulting #sleepingpandaspediatricsleepconsulting

📚 In this house we love to read..not only before we go to bed..but as soon as we get up too! . 📖 Story time is one of our favorite steps to our bedtime and nap routines. But remember to keep it short. Babies only need 1-2 short books right before getting into bed to help them wind down and help cue them that it’s time for sleep. As they get older, they like to stall when it comes to bedtime so we stick to a 2-3 books rule (depending on how long the book is ) and I don’t negotiate with him or else he’ll start pulling out all of the books from the shelf. . ⏰ So keep your routines short & simple..and go through the steps exactly the same each time. . . #sleeproutine #bedtime #bedtimeroutine #storytime #readingisfundamental #independentsleepskills #sleepconsultant #sleepconsulting #sleepcoach #babysleeptips #sleephelp #babysleep #childsleep #childsleepconsultant #sleepexpert #childsleepexpert #teachsleep #healthysleep #healthysleephabits #sleephealth #sleephygiene #sleeptraining #sleepsense #babyhealth #needsleep #babysleepconsultant #tiredmom #sleepingpandassleepconsulting #sleepingpandaspediatricsleepconsulting

🗣 I’m sure you’re familiar with this saying and there really is something magical about the #3 . When it comes to breaking unhealthy habits and in the world of sleep training..I encourage all my parents to stay committed for at least 3 days. . 🤷🏻‍♀️ When you’re trying something new, the first night is always the hardest since you’re child has to learn a new way of sleeping..for example taking the pacifier away. Yes there will be a lot of protest at first and it’s tempting to resort back to simply giving her the paci again but then you haven’t given her enough time to unlearn her old habits. . 🎉 So whether it’s a change in nap times like getting ready to drop a nap, daylight savings’ hiccups, moving to a big kid bed, and learning the skill of independent sleep..stick to it and I’ll guarantee you see a big improvement by day 3️⃣! . . #independentsleepskills #sleepconsultant #sleepconsulting #sleepcoach #babysleeptips #sleephelp #babysleep #childsleep #childsleepconsultant #sleepexpert #childsleepexpert #teachsleep #healthysleep #healthysleephabits #sleephealth #sleephygiene #sleeptraining #sleepsense #babyhealth #needsleep #babysleepconsultant #tiredmom #sleepingpandassleepconsulting #sleepingpandaspediatricsleepconsulting

🚼 Babies, like adults, move around when we sleep, we change positions, we open our eyes, we make funny noises..sometimes we even let out a cry..and not really be fully awake. This happens during the light stages of sleep and is absolutely normal. We don’t even remember waking up most of the time and after a few moments we drift off back to sleep. For babies this can occur several times throughout the night since their sleep cycles are shorter (approx. 45 mins long ). . 🛑 So resist the urge to run into your little one’s room as soon as you hear her fuss. Instead, pause for a few mins..watch your baby on the monitor, it’s ok to wait and see what happens. You see that she is safe. She just had a brief awakening and if given the chance to, baby will learn to comfort herself and fall back to sleep. . . #newbornsleep #newbornsleeptips #independentsleepskills #sleepconsultant #sleepconsulting #sleepcoach #babysleeptips #sleephelp #babysleep #childsleep #childsleepconsultant #sleepexpert #childsleepexpert #teachsleep #healthysleep #healthysleephabits #sleephealth #sleephygiene #sleeptraining #sleepsense #babyhealth #needsleep #babysleepconsultant #tiredmom #sleepingpandassleepconsulting #sleepingpandaspediatricsleepconsulting

🍼 One of the most important sleep tips I encourage parents to practice is to try to keep their baby awake during feeds. It’s very tempting to let your baby fall asleep at the breast or bottle but this creates a “feeding to sleep” association that will hinder your baby from learning how to fall asleep independently. . ☀️Instead, feed upon awakening..so as soon as your baby wakes in the morning or from a nap...go to a bright room, preferably outside of the nursery, and feed. Follow a wake —> feed —> play —> sleep routine. . 👀 Having a fully awake and alert baby during feeding times will help baby to have a full feeding instead of a baby who is a “snack-n-snoozer” who takes several random short catnaps throughout the day. . . #independentsleepskills #sleepconsultant #sleepconsulting #sleepcoach #babysleeptips #sleephelp #babysleep #childsleep #childsleepconsultant #sleepexpert #childsleepexpert #teachsleep #healthysleep #healthysleephabits #sleephealth #sleephygiene #sleeptraining #sleepsense #babyhealth #needsleep #babysleepconsultant #tiredmom #sleepingpandassleepconsulting #sleepingpandaspediatricsleepconsulting

😴TO WAKE OR NOT TO WAKE😴 . Everyone tends to have an opinion on this one! I would love to know yours 🙋🏽‍♀️ . I don't tend to adopt general sleep rules ⛔. . My advice is always personalised and there are no generic Teach To Sleep plans because all babies are unique!👼 . As a toddler, Ivy could have a cat nap up until 5pm and she would still sleep 7pm-6.30am. Whereas George will take hours to fall asleep if I let him nap too long, so I tend to wake him up after 2 hours !😲 . Do you ever wake your little one ? Or do you leave them to sleep as much as they need ? What works for yours ?💤 .

⏰ Yes, sleep is important..but so is life. We all thrive when we have a predictable routine, and consistent routines help prevent meltdowns and overtired babies. But this doesn’t mean that you need to stick to a rigid schedule all the time. . 🛠 My goal as a sleep consultant is to give you the tools to help you maneuver through those days that are less than perfect. . 👩🏻‍💻 Did your lunch date run a lil over? Or a zoom meeting took an extra 30 mins of your morning? Did your baby wake up at 6:30am today instead of her usual 7:00am? Or your baby had a short nap today and now you have to shift bedtime a lil bit earlier? . 🧘🏼 This is life. Be a lil flexible with your routine so you don’t end up obsessing over the clock. The most important question is, are you happy? Is your baby happy? . . #routines #babyroutine #babyschedule #independentsleepskills #sleepconsultant #sleepconsulting #sleepcoach #babysleeptips #sleephelp #babysleep #childsleep #childsleepconsultant #sleepexpert #childsleepexpert #teachsleep #healthysleep #healthysleephabits #sleephealth #sleephygiene #sleeptraining #sleepsense #babyhealth #needsleep #babysleepconsultant #tiredmom #sleepingpandassleepconsulting #sleepingpandaspediatricsleepconsulting

👧🏻 As our older kids are going back to school..I wanted to feature one of my clients who I had the pleasure of working with. Meet 8 year old Bella (then 7 yrs old ) — our Sleeping Pandas..or should I say, unicorn 🦄 of the Month. . 🤷🏻‍♀️ Bella’s mom came to me for help in the beginning of the year. Bella had no problems sleeping through the night but she always needed mom to lay in bed with her until she fell asleep and sometimes that would take hours..ending up in late bedtimes, after 9 or 10pm. . 👩‍❤️‍👩 I recently checked in with them to see how they were doing and if Bella was having to do virtual school. My worry with school-aged children is that this new normal of virtual learning from home and increased screen time will wreck havoc on their sleep. Bella’s mom said that Bella still falls asleep on her own and sleeps by herself in her own room. She will be attending school this week and although it’s exciting for her..it’s also scary with all the new protocols in place for the COVID pandemic. . 🥰 More than ever, our older children need special attention now. Too much screen time and not enough outdoor activity can disrupt their natural body clock (circadian rhythm ). They may also face more anxiety as they are exposed to real life challenges and changes to their everyday routines. As parents, it’s more difficult to juggle our schedules and to complete every task at hand..and our children end up getting less of our time. . 👀 Let’s try to pay close attention to the signs of troubled sleep, things like increased nightmares and night terrors, late bedtimes or reluctant bedtimes, drowsiness during the day..these can be signs that your kiddo isn’t getting the sleep they need. . 👩🏻‍💻 I work with babies, toddlers and school-age children up to 12 years old. Message me if you have any questions about your child’s sleep. . . #independentsleepskills #backtoschool #sleepconsultant #sleepconsulting #sleepcoach #babysleeptips #sleephelp #babysleep #childsleep #childsleepconsultant #sleepexpert #childsleepexpert #teachsleep #healthysleep #healthysleephabits #sleephealth #sleephygiene #sleeptraining #sleepsense #babyhealth #needsleep #babysleepconsultant #tiredmom

✈️ Have a little one that needs to sleep away from home? Whether it’s a planned vacation, a quick weekend getaway, or in our case...taking a road trip out of town for a few days to avoid the hurricane...your baby can still sleep like a champ! . 🛄 If you have a couple weeks before your vacation then definitely try to sleep train before you hit the road so things can go as smoothly as possible during your trip. But if you don’t, just try your best to re-create your child’s sleep environment from home. Here are some quick tips: ✅pack your child’s lovey and favorite blanket/toy that he sleeps with, ✅bring portable blackout curtains, ✅bring a white noise machine, ✅bring a portable crib or pack-n’-play that is used just for sleep and meets safety standards, ✅if possible, have your child sleep in their own separate room, if not then use dividers/sheets to create a separate sleep area that is free from distractions. ✅try your best to follow the same routine/schedule as you do at home, ✅avoid over-scheduling activities and missing out on naps, ✅avoid late bedtimes. . 🚙 Feel free to reach out to me for some travel tips before you hit the road so I can help you make your journey a smooth, enjoyable and well-rested one! . . #babytravel #portablecrib #independentsleepskills #sleepconsultant #sleepconsulting #sleepcoach #babysleeptips #sleephelp #babysleep #childsleep #childsleepconsultant #sleepexpert #childsleepexpert #teachsleep #healthysleep #healthysleephabits #sleephealth #sleephygiene #sleeptraining #sleepsense #babyhealth #needsleep #babysleepconsultant #tiredmom #sleepingpandassleepconsulting #sleepingpandaspediatricsleepconsulting

🆘 Especially now! Parents don’t be afraid to reach out for help. Asking for help doesn’t mean that you have failed..it only means that you care enough to make your situation better for you and your family. . 🤷🏻‍♀️ Let’s face it, being a mother now in 2020 has to be one of most challenging times ever. Parenting and working during a pandemic, keeping your family safe from natural disasters, trying to create a normalcy for our children, taking care of a household while still trying to find some time for our own self-care..it really is near impossible to do it alone. . 🦄 Show me a parent who you think has it all under control and still looks & feels amazing and I’ll show you a unicorn..that’s right..they don’t exist. . . 📲 Don’t be afraid to reach out. Let me know how I can help you & your family get back some control. . . #parenthelp #parenting #parentingtips #independentsleepskills #sleepconsultant #sleepconsulting #sleepcoach #babysleeptips #sleephelp #babysleep #childsleep #childsleepconsultant #sleepexpert #childsleepexpert #teachsleep #healthysleep #healthysleephabits #sleephealth #sleephygiene #sleeptraining #sleepsense #babyhealth #needsleep #babysleepconsultant #tiredmom #sleepingpandassleepconsulting #sleepingpandaspediatricsleepconsulting

💤The skill of falling to sleep unassisted is a learned behaviour, not a developmental milestone. If sleep were a milestone, ALL babies would reach it around the same time, like rolling, crawling, walking, etc. Studies show that sleep habits do not get better with age, meaning the only developmental thing happening here is sleep patterns maturing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💤As parents, we teach our children what sleep is. If your child is falling asleep with a bottle, then a bottle will equal sleep to them. If your child is falling asleep by rocking, rocking equals sleep. Once a baby has learned the skill of falling asleep without assistance, they are able to fall BACK to sleep in the middle of the night. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💤Every single person wakes in the middle of the night, the difference is, some babies, and most adults have the ability to fall into the next sleep cycle before our body registers that we are actually awake. When you put a sleeping child to bed, you are interfering with the development of their natural sleep triggers. Children need the opportunity to experiment, and figure out what soothes them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💤Learning not to jump in too quickly and “save” children from frustration is essential in not only sleep, but multiple taught lessons in childhood. Encouraging your child to find what works for them, while providing reassurance is a tool that will follow your child throughout life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👉www.sleepe-zzzconsulting.com ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #sleeptraininghelp #sleeptraining #sleeptrainingsuccess #sleepconsultant #babysleep #babysleephelp #toddlersleephelp #babysleeptips #sleepregression #4monthsold #8monthsold #tiredmom #tiredparents #teachsleep #sleepdeprived #sleepdeprivedmama #fatherhood #motherhood #momblogger #momshelpingmoms #babiesofinstagram #toddlersleepexperts

I may be jinxing myself with this one, but Aiden has been pretty consistently sleeping through the night since 6 weeks. That’s two almost full weeks of 7ish hours of sleep for both of us! Aiden loves “talking” with anyone who will have a conversation with him. His smile is so contagious and warms my heart no matter my mood. I’m so blessed to be his mom 💙

Safe Bedsharing: The Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine have developed a bedsharing and breastfeeding protocol. . . . They recommend that all families are counselled about safe sleep, including discussions about safe bed sharing. Bedsharing promotes breastfeeding initiation, duration and exclusivity. Just make sure it’s safe. It’s great that these discussions can now be held with health professionals without fear of judgement. . . . These are factors that increase the risk of SIDS and fatal sleeping accidents, either alone or when combined with bedsharing. • Sharing a sofa with a sleeping adult (“sofa-sharing” ) • Infant sleeping next to an adult who is impaired by alcohol or drugs • Infant sleeping next to an adult who smokes • Sleeping in the prone position • Never initiating breastfeeding • Sharing a chair with a sleeping adult • Sleeping on soft bedding • Being born preterm or of low birth weight . .
